Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Stop the Screen Off During Calls in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

By default, the auto screen off during calls feature is enabled because it is designed to help you from accidentally touching something in the screen as well as to conserve more battery. This feature works by utilizing the proximity sensor which is located between the earpiece and the front camera at the top of the phone. When the sensor is blocked by an object (e.g: your ear or face) during a call then the screen will be turned off. However, if for any reason you want to stop the screen off during calls then you have to turn off the proximity sensor during calls by disabling the auto screen off during calls feature.

How to disable auto screen off during calls?
You can use two different methods to access the option to keep the screen stay on during calls: from the Phone app settings and from the general settings menu.

Method #1: From the Phone app settings
You can turn off the auto screen off during calls feature from the Phone app settings by using the following steps:
  1. Open Phone app.
  2. Tap the Menu key and then select Call settings.
  3. Clear the checkbox next to Turn off screen during calls to disable this option.
  4. The auto screen off during calls feature has been disabled.

Method #2: From the settings menu
You can turn off the auto screen off during calls feature from the general settings menu by using the following steps:
  1. On home screen, tap the Menu key and then select Settings to go to the general settings menu.
  2. Tap My device tab.
  3. Tap Call.
